The Science Behind FFMI
The Fat-Free Mass Index was introduced in a landmark 1995 study by Kouri et al., which examined body composition in both natural and steroid-using athletes. The study established that an FFMI of approximately 25 represents the upper limit of natural muscular development for men.
Since then, FFMI has become a widely-used metric in sports science, clinical research, and the fitness community for assessing muscular development independent of height.
Important Disclaimer
FFMI Calculator is intended for informational and educational purposes only. Our tool is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment. Always consult qualified healthcare professionals for medical decisions.
The accuracy of your FFMI calculation depends on the accuracy of your body fat percentage measurement. We recommend using professional methods (DEXA, hydrostatic weighing) for the most reliable results.
